I realize this video is 3 yrs old but I'm just now finding it, so it's new to me. It's not wrong to feed the meat to the chickens, my mom raised chickens and they will eat each their own dead (sometimes try to kill living members of the flock... and yes, they were well-fed and nourished). It's neat that you're canning meat for your first recipe... I know a woman who's been canning for years and she's afraid to do meats (seems rather silly to me personally... as long as you're following guidelines and get a proper seal, nothing should go wrong). Well done!
Fat is what gets rancid, not milk solids.. The gov. does not always tell us the truth..
Great video, you should have your own cooking show! I just got my all American today and did some pizza sauce but after watching this I'm going to do some ruffed grouse. Thanks
Thanks for the recipe! I just found my first wild plums yesterday and would like to preserve them in some way if I can find enough.
Please do more videos. You really research your info before sharing it which makes me feel better before starting a new project.
Canning is boiling...
I am in Maine and have paid 8$a gallon for raw milk. I can't even find it anymore the state made it illigal so the big milk company and poison the population.
I would love to see more vids from you...is the milk working out? I'd love to try it!
i sure do wish you would do some more videos. you organize your information well and present it very well.
ty for doing this video, I just bought my first New pressure canner and was searching videos and seen this one. never thought of canning milk! lol my mother-n-law gets raw milk legally in our area and we could can that once the fats skimmed off! I cant wait to get my canner going! lol
I researched many reliable sources who are not influenced by big farm corporations and of course big brother government. Here it is two years later and no signs or symptoms of botulism.
Yep!
All jars cook evenly.
Going to college and raising kids, I'll get back to it soon.
Tastes like regular milk.
Tasted great.
The cow produces more than we can drink before it spoils, therefore we can.
Just have 1 question ..... Does it taste like reg. milk or does it have the evaporated milk taste ?? Ive seen other vids on canning milk but your is by far the Whitest looking of them all . Others looked (and I would imagine taste) kinda like cream !!
$ 2.79 a can or $ 33.95 for 24 cans . Up here . $ 5.29 a gallon for whole milk . Have to give it a try still sounds cheaper to do it yourself . Thanks for the info
Great information. I would have never even thought of canning milk. thank you for the clear and concise video.
just wondered how it tasted? Did you achieve the flavor goal you were after? This video was great. Im definitely going to try it.
Yes I did a video on caning butter, but I removed it because I have changed from water bath to pressure canning it for safer results.
Yes the jars stay in the pantry and you can use any kind of milk.
Yes I do! I have a heavy load in college right now, but I am planning on doing some spring videos. Good luck with your new canner!
$3 a gallon for milk? jeez, I was buying from amish for $1.50 a gallon
Another great video from a pretty lady as always! The "prepper" is a lucky guy! ;)
6 mos to a year, I used mine up to a year. You can use any type of milk.
I've been using mine up to a year.
Wow! Thank you soo much! I have plans to make a video or two but I am in college right now to become a nurse and my time is very limited.
No can do. I truly detest pickled eggs! Yuck.
You don't have to use raw milk. Store bought is fine.
Well of course its shelf stable, that's the whole point. But you definitely have to refrigerate any unused milk once you break the seal.
Why thank you for that complement. And yes, it tastes wonderful! I love to use it in a quick chicken salad for sandwiches.
Yes, you can use home canned 2% milk in all the ways you mentioned, but be aware that the taste will be different as home canned milk is less "evaporated." It's truly a matter of taste.
Thank for sharing that info on a good and affordable place to buy!
All my sources were discussed in the first few minutes of my video. Please refer to the sources I mentioned.
Bonnie, I am just not sure. I have no idea what's been done to milk to make it lactose free. You could always try a batch and see what happens. It won't hurt you, but the taste or appearance may be awful.
We canned raw milk because we had access to free raw milk. You are right about the benefits of raw milk but can only drink so much! We had a surplus of 3 gal that week so we stored it in cans! So for others I say, can whatever's cheapest.
I do not have a gauge on my canner either. But I brought my canner to where the weight jiggled for 30 minutes. On medium heat. Then I turned off the heat for the last amount of time to quit jiggling. But I did not wait to put the weight on I did that in the beginning. When it reached where no steam was left. I opened my canner and it was less messy, and they all sealed. Looks more like something I would use on my breakfast food
Can you use lactose-free milk from the store?
Starting the learning curve on canning food.
This is a very helpful video. I got a pressure canner about 5 months ago and have been nervous to start using it. Now I'm inspired :-) My goal is to make a lot of bechamel or white sauce that I could can. I like using white sauce but never bother because it's a pain to make it well. Hopefully it will can well. I'll check my books for the details but this helps me a lot. Thanks again.
Do you have pans for more videos? I received a pressure canner for Christmas and have never used one before! Yikes!
Where did you find safe guidelines for temperature and time for pressure canning milk. I am not aware of any published guidlines for doing this at home.
Great Video! Thank you for sharing. I found that the All-American Pressure Caner is cheaper at disaster stuff dot com The 21.5 QT model for about $210
Many I would just can the chunks of chicken and then then drain & saute it with the fresh veggies. If you canned them together, it would come out more like soup or stew..
The only type of canned milk I purchase is evaporated milk when making pies (ex:pumpkin). The milk you canned you mentioned is for drinking. We have 2 children that are allergic to milk and have them finally able to tolerate 2% and was wondering if we could can and still be able to use for drinking, cereal, and baking? Would I be able to use also like I would as evaporated milk for pumpkin pies etc.? Once we open we should refrigerate? Thank you and God Bless
Yes he did!
They are much smaller but are just as bitter!
I did not.
